Artistic Repairs

Just like a car, rugs require repairs to withstand the wear and tear of daily use over time. The sides and ends of rugs are crucial in preventing unraveling. When these areas weaken, prompt repair is necessary to prevent further damage. Ideally, rugs should be maintained every 5 to 10 years to ensure their longevity.

A common concern is whether repairing a rug diminishes its value. High-quality repairs, performed with traditional vegetable-dyed wool and expert weaving, can enhance the value of any rug, whether new or antique. The problem arises when repairs are done incorrectly, using unsuitable materials or techniques that compromise the rug's original beauty. You can trust us to restore your rugs to the highest standards. Our expertise in caring for all types of carpets—both new and old—ensures that their unique character and individuality are preserved, drawing on decades of experience working with antique rug collectors.

Common Rug Repairs

The edges and ends of your rug, where all four sides are properly bound, are the most common areas for repairs. This process can remarkably transform a soft, worn carpet into one that is both durable and distinctive. We "frame" your rug, creating a lasting and beautiful piece of woven art, much like how an antique painting looks fragile without a quality frame.

Fringe Stitching

Fringes are stitched along the edges of the rug and can be restored using two methods. The first method involves attaching prefabricated fringes. The second method entails creating a new base on the rug, which includes manually weaving the fringe base and tying it by hand. This approach ensures that the fringe is restored to match the original woven design of the rug perfectly.

Holes,Tears & Worn Out

This type of repair involves creating a foundation using carefully chosen weaving techniques to establish the weft and warp threads that run along the length and width of the rug. The missing motifs are then meticulously reproduced by hand. We select raw threads that match the original weaving and dye them using appropriate coloring and dyeing methods to ensure a seamless restoration.

Restoration (Color Separation)

In cases where rugs have been damaged by flooding, leading to color blending, restoration (color separation) is performed manually. We use natural materials that are gentle and safe, ensuring that the quality of the colors is preserved during the process.

Finishing

Once a new rug is woven, a starch-based substance is sprayed onto the base or back, giving it stiffness. However, after two years of use, this finish wears away, allowing sand to settle into the rug's base, making it rigid. During the cleaning process, when the sand is removed, the rug regains its softness, and the finish needs to be reapplied to restore its original feel.
