Rug Stain Removal

Residential And Commercial Persian & Oriental Rug Stain Removal

Spot Cleaning

Spot cleaning your Persian and Oriental rugs can be quite beneficial, helping to maintain their appearance until you’re able to schedule a professional cleaning. It's important to note that manufacturers of Persian and Oriental rugs recommend having them professionally cleaned at least once a year, or twice a year if they are frequently soiled. However, over-cleaning can actually damage your rugs and shorten their lifespan. A common issue we encounter is homeowners attempting to clean their rugs themselves, which often results in unsightly residues being left behind.

Before you attempt to treat a stain, consider that you might inadvertently cause more damage, ultimately costing yourself more than if you had contacted us right away. Certain situations are best handled by professionals who possess the expertise and knowledge to ensure your rugs receive the proper care.

Pet Stains

Your beloved pet can often become your rugs' worst enemy. When accidents occur, it's definitely time to reach out to us for a thorough cleaning. One major issue, especially with cats, is odor.

Urine can impact the dyes used in carpets, though not all incidents will lead to permanent stains. The success of removal depends on the urine's composition, the dyes and finishes used in the carpet, and the time elapsed since the incident. Some urine spots may be noticeable right away, while others can take weeks or even months to react. In some cases, the dyes may change color immediately upon contact with urine.

When urine spots develop slowly and are only noticed after a significant time has passed, the dyes and carpet fibers may suffer permanent damage. For example, on beige carpets, pet urine can attack blue dyes, leaving behind the red and yellow dyes, resulting in a stain that appears red, yellow, or orange.

Left untreated, pet urine can damage carpets in several ways. The moisture can weaken the layers, leading to separation or delamination of the backing material. Seam areas are particularly vulnerable to damage and may separate over time.

Another challenge, especially with cat urine, is odor. Unless the urine is completely removed, achieving full odor elimination is unlikely. While various products claim to combat odor, many only mask it, and in humid conditions, the smell can resurface. Recently developed enzyme-based products available at pet stores and veterinary offices can be more effective, but they are often best applied by a professional carpet cleaner. If odor persists, the damaged area can be replaced with a piece from reserved scrap. In cases where carpet replacement is necessary, you may also need to replace the cushion and possibly the subfloor.

Some carpet manufacturers now offer backings that resist spills and prevent liquid from penetrating into the cushion and subfloor. Be sure to consult with your carpet dealer about these products.

Persian Rug History

Deep within a Persian rug lies the essence of authentic Persian design, intricately woven and knotted in harmony with rich mythology. The motifs, forms, patterns, and symbolism in these carpets convey the mythological narratives of ancient Persia.

What defined Persia and Iran? It was the art of weaving and the cultural significance of this craft that historically established Persia as a "mirror of civilization," long before the discovery of the Pazyryk.

In the Avesta, the sacred text of Zoroastrianism, which was the predominant religion prior to the advent of Islam, Ahura Mazda is recognized as the central deity and creator. Specific passages (Yasna 29.6 and 48.9) refer to Ahura as "Vafush" in the original Avestan language.
